FiNDit Search Help

What is FiNDit?

FiNDit is the Library's search tool for finding books, eBooks, articles, journals, videos and more.  From a single search box you can discover all of the library's resources.  You can then use the filters on the left side of your screen to refine your results.

It is best to sign in to FiNDit to ensure you are accessing all of the Library's subscriptions and resources.

What resources can I access via FiNDit?

FiNDit allows you to access:
  • Books, DVDs, journals and other physical items found in the Library
  • Most of the library's online journal articles and newspaper content
  • eBooks the Library subscribes to
  • Notre Dame research papers and theses in Research Online
Resources not included in FiNDit:
  • Legal information - for legal research it is best to find case law, legislation, articles and commentary via the Library’s legal databases
  • Specialist content - e.g. Scopus citation database or search options based on subject thesauruses, e.g. National Library of Medicine (NLM) Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) descriptors.

Using FiNDit

If you are looking for a particular book or journal article, search using the title. Avoid copying full citations into FiNDit.

You can also search for articles on a particular topic by identifying keywords from your assignment question. You can use boolean operators to group search terms together.

You can also browse ejournals for your subject discipline, by selecting the ejournals heading in the top menu bar of FiNDit. Our e-journals platform BrowZine allows you to:

  • browse and read journals by subject, review tables of contents, and download full articles
  • create your own journal shelf and be notified when new articles are published
  • save articles to read offline
  • email articles to share with others

If you are looking for a particular database, you can search in FiNDit using the name of the database or use the database list. The databases link allows you to browse the eResources by Subject page.
