eResources Terms of Use

What are Library eResources

The Library’s eResources include licenced databases that may contain images, graphics, indexes and abstracts, audio recordings, audio-visual works, artworks, musical works, books, and journal articles.

 

Who can use the Library’s eResources

Staff – individuals (including adjuncts, clinical academics, and visiting appointments) whether on a permanent, temporary, contract or visiting basis, who have been issued by the institution with an institutional account. The University Library will consider these individuals as authorised users eligible to access Library e-Resources.

Students – individuals currently enrolled in a course of study offered by the University and issued by the institution with a student account. The University Library will consider any individual with a current student account in the identity management system to be eligible to use these resources

Alumni - individuals with a current account in the identity management system as an Alumni to be eligible to use these resources where licence permits.

 

Ways you can use the Library’s eResources and your responsibilities

The University Library eResources are available to authorised users for the purposes of teaching, research and study, and the administrative activities of The University.

By accessing or using the Library’s eResources, you agree to use them in a legal, ethical and responsible manner and in compliance with:

Permitted Uses:

  • Search, view, listen to, and browse table of contents, full text articles, bibliographic information, data, images, and videos.
  • Print, save, or download, in accordance with the Publisher’s Terms and Conditions and Australian copyright law.

Prohibited Uses:

Unless otherwise permitted by Australian copyright law or the publisher’s Terms and Conditions, prohibited activities include:

  • Sequential or bulk downloading of content, unless expressly permitted for the purposes of analysis (e.g. Text Mining or Data mining).
  • Downloading entire contents from a single publication: (e.g. a journal issue, e-book, or multimedia resource)
  • Using automated programs including, but not limited to spiders, robots, or browser plugins to download content.
  • Sharing passwords with others, whether authorised users or not.
  • Commercial use, copying, reproducing, or redistributing in any format to non-subscribers or unauthorised users.
  • Using the Subscribed Products in combination with an artificial intelligence tool to train an algorithm, test, process, analyse, generate output and/or develop any form of artificial intelligence tool.
  • Posting individual items from the Subscribed Products on social networking sites; or
  • Substantially or systematically reproduce, retain, store locally, redistribute or disseminate online, the Subscribed Products.

 

Access to eResources    

The University’s Student Administration offices are responsible for creating student accounts which enable student access.

The University’s Staffing Offices are responsible for creating staff and appointee accounts which enable staff and appointee access.

Access is granted via an authentication process open only to eligible users as defined in this policy.

 

Monitoring of Usage

The University will monitor the use of the University Library’s e-Resources and may investigate any usage that deviates from the permitted uses described here and in the terms of the relevant Licence Agreement.

The University Librarian may suspend an individual user account and notify the user of this suspension where he/she is of the view that an individual user may be in breach of the terms of the relevant Licence Agreement(s).
