Successful Learning Strategies

Techniques and tools to learn more efficiently and effectively.

Why are we asked to work in groups?

Working in groups and teams can be challenging, yet it is a common practice at university. Here are some of the reasons why you might be asked to do group assignments:

  • To encourage you to work collaboratively with your peers
  • To encourage you to share ideas and be mindful and respectful of other’s ideas
  • To learn how to brainstorm and discuss ideas
  • To promote critical thinking and build negotiation skills
  • To provide you the opportunity to learn from each other
  • To encourage you to meet others in your program

See the resources below to make the most out of the collaborative work process.

Tools and tips

There are lots of great tools out there to help with communication and organisation. Choose your tools early on in the process, and make sure that everyone has access to them. At the very least, exchange contact information so you have basic ways of staying in touch.
