The Economist is available full text, without graphics, on Thomson Reuters Westlaw.  You can drill down and use the simple search box or use the advanced search to develop your search with specific fields, specifications of proximity or frequency of terms.  You can also define the date to a specific day or time period.

If you know the name of a journal or database type it in on the top box.  In this case type in The Economist.
