The Open Definition gives full details on the requirements for ‘open’ data and content. Open data are the building blocks of open knowledge. Open knowledge is what open data becomes when it’s useful, usable and used. The key features of openness are: Availability and access, Reuse and redistribution, and Universal participation.

The ADA provides a national service for the collection and preservation of digital research data. The archive is based at the Australian National University.

The Australian National Data Service (ANDS) is a partnership led by Monash University, working in collaboration with the Australian National University (ANU) and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO)
