RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication", it is a format for delivering information on sites that update regularly.
It has advantages over email because you do not have to sign up to access feeds, instead you subscribe by entering the URL for the feed into your chosen method of access. You can read RSS feeds in a number of ways, including using feed readers, web browsers, and Microsoft Outlook.
Online feed readers provider a convenient central location for your alerts. If you choose to use an online reader over a desktop version you can see your alerts right in your browser.
Feed readers can be added as browser extensions, then to add a feed, simply click on the RSS icon for your desired sources.
We recommend Feeder (link below), though there are many feed readers available.
RSS feeds can be created in your Outlook, which reduces the number of places to look for communications and updates about your research. By default, the RSS feeds appear as a subfolder in your inbox, but you can also pin them to your Favorites folder for easy access.
The Microsoft help guide (linked below) explains how to configure Outlook to receive RSS feeds and add a feed subscription.
