Recommending & Requesting

I want...

  1. In FiNDit, search for the resource that you are trying to access. If your item appears in the results list (e.g. if it's available from a library on another campus), click on the item and skip to step 4 below

Click here to expand your search At the top of your results screen, go to the box that says "Click here to expand your search" and click the link - this will search for results beyond the Notre Dame Library's collection.

TIP: If the item doesn't appear in your results, see the next section further below.

  1. Read any of the important information and complete any required fields and click Send.

If you have not had success finding a record using the method above, you can submit a new request using the steps below:

  1. Select your resource type and enter in the search details (e.g. book title, article title, author, etc.) and click Submit.
  1. Scroll down to the Get it from other locations section (log into FiNDit if you haven't already).
  1. Select your preferred delivery option and click Get It.
  1. Read any of the important information and complete any required fields and click Send.

Once you have submitted your request you will receive any further communications to your student or staff email address.

All Notre Dame students and staff can submit book recommendations directly through FiNDit. Follow the steps below: 

  1. In FiNDit, ​​search for the item you wish to recommend
  2. Click the option at the top of your results to expand your search
  3. Click on the title of the item and scroll down to the How to get It section
  4. If you haven't already, sign into FiNDit with your student or staff number and Notre Dame password
  5. Click on the Recommend option and complete or edit any required information before clicking Send request
(If the above option doesn't work for you, use the 'Recommend a Purchase' link at the top of your page in FiNDit to submit a manual form).

I want my students to...

Q: Do you already have access to the document (article, book chapter, etc)?

 

A: YES

  1. Create a Leganto Reading List using the support guide : Reading Lists: Guide for Academic Staff
  2. Upload a copy of your document following these instructions: Articles, books & chapters - Scanned chapters
  3. Publish your Reading List and the Library will make your document available to your students. 

 

A: NO

  1. Create a Leganto Reading List using the support guide : Reading Lists: Guide for Academic Staff
  2. Include details of the document you require following the instructions at the bottom of this page: Articles, books & chapters - Scanned chapters
  3. Publish your Reading List and the Library will source your document and make it available to your students. 


A. UNSURE

  • Search FiNDit for the document (article, chapter etc) before returning here and selecting the relevant answer.

Q: Does the Library already have the book in a print or electronic copy?

 

A: YES

  1. Create a Leganto Reading List using the support guide: Reading Lists: Guide for Academic Staff.
  2. Add the book to your list following these instructions: Articles, books & chapters
  3. Publish your Reading List and an eBook will be immediately available to your students, and a print book will be moved into the Course Reserves (High Demand) collection by library staff. 

 

 

A: NO

  1. Create a Leganto Reading List using the support guide: Reading Lists: Guide for Academic Staff.
  2. Include details of the book you require following the instructions on this page: Articles, books & chapters - Purchase requests
  3. Publish your Reading List and the Library will seek to purchase the book you require. 

 

  • Allow at least 6 weeks processing time for new print book purchases 
  • If a copy is not available to purchase, the Library will contact you via email. 

 

A: UNSURE

  • Search FiNDit for the book before returning here and selecting the relevant answer.
