Google Scholar profile

Employers, industry leaders and grant reviewers may search for information on potential candidates online. Having a public Google Scholar profile means that you are discoverable and have a platform to present your unique skills and expertise.

Create a profile using the "My Citations" link in Google Scholar. Content can be updated automatically or manually. Ensure that you make your profile Public so that it appears in Google Scholar results.

Be aware that Google Scholar citation metrics can often appear inflated in comparison with ResearcherID and Scopus Author ID. This is a well recognised issue so it is important to clean up your record and remove incorrect entries.

  • Google Scholar Citations is comprehensive. It includes books, reports and other grey literature that are not listed in other citation databases.

  • Strong cross disciplinary coverage, including in the humanities.

  • Can generate a H index and provide information about where your work has been cited.

  • Most widely used bibliographical tool for scholarly publications

  • Google Scholar contains grey literature, including article preprints, conference proceedings, and other materials that have not been subject to peer-review. There is currently no way to limit searches to refereed materials
  • Need to create a Google Scholar account and have an institutional email address
  • There can be issues of incorrect attribution. Once you have a profile created you can add or remove publications to correct the citations associated with you.
