EndNote is citation management software that is commonly used at universities and research institutions. All students and staff at The University of Notre Dame Australia are entitled to download and use EndNote for free. EndNote 20 is installed on all on-campus PCs.
EndNote can help you manage and use references to support your research and writing.
While anyone can use EndNote for their research and coursework, EndNote is particularly suited for postgraduate students and researchers. Here are some of the ways it can be used to streamline your work:
1. Please see the Software section of this guide to download EndNote to your PC or Mac. If you are working on a University PC, locate the EndNote program from the Start menu.
2. Once you have installed the EndNote software, you'll be prompted to create a new EndNote Library (alternatively, go to File > New... in EndNote)
Tip: Give the Library a meaningful name (e.g. "Mental Health research project" and be sure to remember where you save it.
3. Import references to your library from your searches on FiNDit and other library databases (e.g. EBSCO, PubMed)
4. Use the Find Full Text function to add the PDFs to your references within your EndNote Library
5. Organise your references within your EndNote Library using the Create Groups function
6. Create formatted bibliographies for your assignments using EndNote. Or, using Cite While You Write, insert references into your assignments as you write them, and then let the software create and format your bibliography for you.
EndNote 20 is the current version of the software. You might notice changes to the interface, but the essential functions are the same. Please see the Upgrades section of this guide if you need to update the software on your personal device.
