Importing citations

Add items in bulk

  1. In your reading list click Add
  2. Select Import course materials

Import course materials

 This AI tool is a pre-trained large language model (LLM), and does not use your data to directly or indirectly train the LLM. Your data is not stored or used for any other purpose than to build the list. See Clarivate Academia & Government - Use of Generative AI for more information. 

Upload a document

  1. Choose to either upload a document containing a list of resources into the first box, or paste your citations into the second box. 
 Resources in your list can include library and non-library materials (e.g. webpages). Please add as much detail as possible about each citation including ISBN's, DOIs or URLs. A suggested template is available to download - Leganto Reading List Template

 

  1. Once you upload a document or paste your resources, Leganto will start importing the resources. 
  2. Select the desired section from the dropdown menu.
  3. Click Add all items.

Check citations

Leganto will use the details provided in your document to match against the library's collection, or it will create a new citation with a link to access external resources. 

Any resources that have not generated a link or catalogue details (e.g. a Book or journal article) will be investigated by the library once you publish your list. 

If there are any resources missing from your list, you may need to add it again using one of the options available:

  1. Library Search 
  2. Cite It!
  3. Manual entry:
    1. In your reading list click Add.
    2. Select Manual Entry.
    3. Select the material type (e.g. book, article, book chapter).
    4. Type the full title and click Next.
    5. Enter in as much detail about the item as possible and click Next.
    6. Select the desired section.
    7. Add a tag.
      1. Select either Required or Recommended.
    8. Click Add.

Export from Endnote

  1. In EndNote (desktop), select the citations you would like to add to Leganto.
  2. Click the arrow symbol from the toolbar icons to export
  3. Select a location to save the file onto your device.
  4. Clearly name the file:
    1. Manually add .ris to the end of the name (e.g. "Endnote for Leganto.ris.")
    2. Type: Text File (*txt)
    3. Output style: RefMan (RIS)
      1. If you don't see the RefMan option, choose Select Another Style.
      2. Scroll down to RefMan (RIS) Export and click Choose.
  5. Click Save.

  1. To add your citations in Leganto, click either option A or B below:
    Option A: Import into a Leganto Section
    Option B: Import to Leganto Favourites

Option A: Import into a Leganto section

  1. In Leganto, click Add. 
  2. Select Import References > From File.

  1. Under File Type select RIS.
  2. Either drag your saved file into the box, or click to browse for a file.
  3. Once the files are imported, select the section. 
  4. Click Add all items.
  1. Your resources will now be added to your section and you can close the pop up window. 
  2. Click and drag citations to move them into other sections in your list.

Option B: Import to Leganto favourites

  1. In Leganto's top right menu, if you haven't already, click to pop Leganto out into a new tab

  1. In the left side menu, select Favourites.
  2. Click Add.
  3. From the menu, select Import References > From File.

  1. Under File Type select RIS.
  2. Either drag your saved file into the box, or click to browse for a file.
  1. Once the files are imported, close the pop up window and go back to your list.
  2. Select Add > Add from Favourites.

  1. From the pop up window, click and drag citations into the required sections.

Connect to RefWorks

  1. In Leganto, click on the Settings cog in the top right corner of the page.
  2. Select Reference Managers.

  1. In the pop up screen, under Add Citation Managers, select RefWorks.
  2. RefWorks will open in a new tab, sign in to your account.
  3. Once logged in, in Leganto RefWorks will display as Connected.
  4. Close the pop up screen.

Import in Leganto

  1. From your list, click Add.
  2. Select Import References > From RefWorks.
 You may need to log out of Leganto and log back in for this option to display.

  1. A pop up box will appear with your RefWorks citations. Click on each citation and select the required section
  2. Click Add.
    1. If you wish to edit any details of the citation or add a student note, click Add & Edit.
